Essential Oil Descriptions

Angelica Root (Angelica archangelica) has an earthy, herbaceous scent.  It is a superb tonic and supports healthy immune and respiratory systems.  Angelica root is a fortifying essential oil that has been traditionally used to help restore strength and stamina and to combat stress, anxiety, nervous tension, and exhaustion.  It’s a great addition to skin care products to soothe dry and irritated skin, and is reputed to help stimulate circulation and relieve indigestion.  Angelica Root blends well with Clary Sage, Patchouli, most citruses, and woodsy oils like Cedarwood and Juniper.

Basil (Ocimum basilicum) smells garden-fresh, spicy and floral. It is an uplifting essential oil that inspires confidence and has a clarifying effect on the brain. Use Basil as a study buddy to improve concentration, alertness, and memory retention. Basil can also be beneficial to healthy respiratory and digestive systems, helping with sinus congestion and nausea.  Basil essential oil blends well with Bergamot, Clary Sage, Geranium, Lime, and Grapefruit.

Bay (Pimenta racemosa) has a spicy, sweet-balsamic scent.  Bay is a warming and stimulating essential oil that can improve circulation and soothe minor muscle sprains and strains.  Because of its stimulating properties, Bay has traditionally been used in hair and scalp tonics for greasy hair and to reduce the symptoms of dandruff. It’s a mentally stimulating and invigorating oil that can help support healthy immune and circulatory systems. Bergamot (Citrus bergamia) is wonderfully uplifting and refreshing essential oil with a fresh sweet-citrus, floral scent. It's considered a tonic for frazzled nerves and can help soothe anxiety and lift melancholy. Bergamot can be supportive to healthy digestive and upper respiratory systems, and is great for oily or blemish-prone skin. Often used as an air freshener to combat odors. Bergamot blends well with Lavender, Neroli, Cypress, Jasmine, Juniper Berry, Lemon, Chamomile, Geranium, Rose, and Clary Sage.

Birch Sweet (Betula lenta) has a medicinal yet refreshing minty wintergreen aroma that's very invigorating. Traditionally used as an analgesic, the warming properties seem to help soothe muscular aches and pains. It helps improve circulation, remove toxins, and its natural astringent properties make it a good skin toner.  A very powerful essential oil best used intermittently and properly diluted. Birch blends well with Cardamom, Chamomile, Lavender, Ginger, Lemon, Orange, and Thyme.

Black Pepper (Piper nigrum) has a warm, fresh spicy scent. A stimulating essential oil that is comforting and motivating. Black Pepper is one of the best essential oils for common muscular aches and pains.  It is supportive to a healthy digestive system and can help stimulate appetite.  Black Pepper may increase circulation and support a healthy immune system.  Black Pepper blends well with Frankincense, Sandalwood, Lavender, Rosemary, Geranium, and most floral and citrus oils.

Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) is a warm spicy, yet sweet smelling essential oil. It is believed to be mentally stimulating and to help aid concentration, increase focus, and reduce drowsiness. Cardamom has traditionally been used to soothe digestive issues like heartburn and indigestion, and to support a healthy respiratory system. Cardamom blends well with Cedarwood, Frankincense, Cinnamon, Clove, Ginger, citruses, and florals like Rose and Ylang Ylang.

Carrot Seed (Daucus carota) has a woody, earthy scent.  It has a wonderful toning action on the body and can be helpful for toxin build-up and water retention. Chamomile German (Matricaria recutica) has a sweet, warm herbaceous scent. Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus) essential oil has a fresh grassy, lemony scent and is commonly used to ward off insects. Eucalyptus Lemon (Eucalyptus citriodora) is remarkable for its lemony, citronella-like fragrance. Eucalyptus is energizing and mentally stimulating while also stress-reducing.
